Celebration in the East End

Celebrate Cinco de Mayo and the revitalization of Harrisburg Boulevard at the first annual East End Street Fest - May 5 from noon to 8 p.m
.

During light-rail construction in the East End, METRO partnered with the Greater East End Management District to plant trees and install more accommodating sidewalks on Harrisburg Boulevard. These efforts dovetailed with the District’s Livable Centers Plan, which is making the East End a more transit- and pedestrian-friendly neighborhood.

The East End Street Fest will celebrate these improvements with a day of fun-filled family entertainment, highlighting the rich culture of the East End and celebrating the transformation of a historic neighborhood. Some of Houston’s most popular restaurants and vendors will be on hand to compete for the coveted title of Best Taco in Houston. An award will also be given out for the best decorated food vendor truck.

Acts scheduled to appear include Norma Zenteno Band, the Rebel Crew Live Experience with DJ Joe B, Frenetic Theatre Dance, Pistoleros de Tejas Band and Ambassadors International Ballet Folklorico. In addition, Milby High School will have booths with activities for the whole family and performances by their band and dance troupe.
