World-class transit options for a city on the move.

These are exciting times for the Greater Houston area. We're on the road to tomorrow, figuratively and literally. At the heart of this mission is METRO Solutions, a sophisticated and highly evolved transit system plan, in development since 2001, and now, decidedly, on a roll.

Ordinary citizens, regional transportation partners and national mobility experts collaborated in this effort, each offering unique and valid perspectives. The resulting plan acknowledges that, in a city as spread out as ours, no single solution will solve our region’s growing traffic congestion and air-quality problems. Success will depend on the strategic integration of many solutions. METRO Solutions. These include light rail, commuter rail, buses, HOV lanes and more.

The METRO Board of Directors adopted the plan in July, 2003, and voters approved it the following November. METRO Solutions calls for major multimodal transit improvements across the region. It also extends through 2014 the General Mobility Program, which sets aside one-quarter of METRO's one-cent sales-tax revenue for mobility projects in Harris County, the City of Houston and the Multi-Cities. In addition, voters granted METRO the authority to issue up to $640 million in bonds to fund the next phase of projects.
