Light rail plays a vital role in the transformation of Houston into one of the next great global cities of the future, and the segments under construction in the Downtown area right now represent some of the system’s most exciting components.

Once complete, the Southeast and East End Lines, between I-45 and US-59 will join our existing Main Street Line to connect residents and visitors from far and wide to business, education and government centers, along with major sporting events, world-class theaters, entertainment venues, hotels, restaurants and more in the heart of the city.

Just as important, this METRORail expansion will help ease traffic congestion, reduce greenhouse emissions and improve the quality of our air.

Central Station - Main Design Competition

Five award-winning architecture firms from around the country have been invited to submit proposals for the iconic new Central Station, to be constructed on Main Street between Capitol and Rusk.

Designers were asked to consider a number of factors, including openness, views of adjacent buildings, clarity of circulation, and feasibility of construction and maintenance. But above all, they were asked to design a landmark architectural feature for Downtown Houston

We invite you to submit written comments which will be considered by the jury in the selection of the winning design.

Please help us by making your comments specific.

If you like or dislike a design, tell us why. Is it the shape? The color? Something else? Does the design look like an iconic or landmark structure? Do you think it represents Downtown Houston? Will the design enhance your daily experience?
